The ability to touch the screen to change the settings is a nice feature, but the biggest complaint is that the screens are too small and placed too low compared to regular mirrors. We do not think it is prudent to spend so much on something that limits your field of vision, even though they are made to extend range via aerodynamic improvement.

Despite its less powerful throttle and inability to match the acceleration of a Tesla Model X when stopped, the Q8 e-tron still offers more than enough power for most drivers.

The Q8 e-tron effortlessly accelerates and passes thanks to the electric motors’ instantaneous thrust and the standard quattro all-wheel drive system’s grip. Because the comparable Audi Q8 diesel’s automatic transmission hesitates when you want to make a quick getaway, this one can effortlessly squeeze into tight places in traffic, while the other one has no such problems.

Going for a drive is when the Q8 e-tron reaches its most breathtakingly beautiful. Unlike other electric cars, the Audi does not add to ambient noise like wind or road noise because it does not have an engine drone. Even at 70 mph, the optional acoustic side windows reduce the noise to a more manageable 50 mph. But on bumpier terrain, the SQ8 e-tron’s enormous tires—that look like they might contain a cricket green—may cause quite a stir.

It has little trouble navigating winding, uneven roads or navigating enormous potholes and drain covers that other vehicles would careen into. The SQ8 e-tron, like a well-organized BMW M, features massive 22-inch wheels and an adjustable suspension that provides a rough but surprisingly controlled ride.

Its weight becomes more obvious on winding roads, though. More than three times heavier than a Jaguar I-Pace and over seven times heavier than a Model X with seven seats, its weight is nearly 2.5 tons (2,650 kg in SQ8 e-tron version). As a result, the regular Q8 e-tron is less agile and feels a bit heavy while navigating tighter curves.

The high-performance SQ8 e-tron, on the other hand, is noticeable. Thanks to some ingenious programming of its two back electric motors, it can independently adjust the power delivered to each of the rear wheels. By directing more power to the outside rear tire, the torque vectoring technology sharpens the car’s cornering line when the Sport mode is engaged. We nearly forgot we were driving a large vehicle because of how smoothly it handled and how beautifully it was constructed.

Although the low center of gravity improves stability and grip across the board, this isn’t the kind of vehicle you’d want to sprint down your beloved back road. The BMW iX and the Jaguar I-Pace are superior, yet it shares certain similarities with the Mercedes EQC.

The Q8 e-tron’s nice ride and handling will come as a pleasant surprise if you approach it without presuming it is a sports vehicle. The regenerative braking system is easy to operate and may slow the car down enough to get through intersections and roundabouts, but it isn’t as strong as the setup in a Model X. You may also activate the system by pressing down on the brake pedal; it will only engage the mechanical brakes under extremely heavy loads, allowing the battery to recover more power.

One cannot turn a blind eye to the 2027 Audi Q8 e-tron’s jaw-dropping acceleration. Two electric motors provide 335 horsepower, allowing even the base Q8 e-tron 50 to go from zero to sixty-two miles per hour in less than six seconds. Although it takes 4.8 seconds to get from zero to sixty-two miles per hour, which is slower than the cheaper Tesla Model Y, it still has everything the power, torque, and performance you could want in an electric car. The maximum speed that the Q8 e-tron 50 is capable of is 124 miles per hour.

With an additional 402 horsepower and 664 Newton-meters of torque, the Q8 e-tron 55 can accelerate from 0 to 62 miles per hour in a mere 5.6 seconds. While this configuration isn’t slow and has adequate propulsion when at rest, it lacks the sensation of speed associated with a rocket ship. Previous generations of Audi’s flagship electric SUV, the Q8 e-tron, came with a 71-or 95-kilowatt-hour (kWh) battery and could travel between 198 and 254 miles on a single charge. No vehicle could compete, not even the 380-mile BMW iX xDrive50 or the 292-mile Jaguar I-Pace.

A bigger battery is standard on the 2027 Audi Q8 e-tron compared to its pre-facelift predecessor. Comparable to the entry-level xDrive40 BMW iX, the Jaguar I-Pace, and the Genesis Electrified GV70, the Q8 e-tron 50 boasts an 89 kWh useable battery and can go up to 281 miles (or 290 miles for the Sportback).

The massive 114 kWh battery, of which 106 kWh is useable, allows the Q8 e-tron 55 to achieve a maximum range of 330 miles in SUV shape and 342 miles in Sportback coupe form. We are still unconvinced about the efficiency of this Q8 e-tron variant, despite the fact that we have driven it extensively. If you manage to get more than 2.5 miles per kWh of energy, you may immediately subtract 75 miles from the reported range. This amounts to a realistic range of around 265 miles from the most powerful Q8 e-tron model. Reduced range on a full charge is typical under heavy braking or in colder climates.

Using the same 106 kWh usable battery as the other Q8 models, the top-tier Q8 e-tron tri-motor SQ8 variations come with three electric motors instead of two. A claimed 290 miles is the range for this high-performance version, which is somewhat more than the Sportback variant. Despite its claimed efficiency under ideal conditions, we measured as little as 1.9 miles per kilowatt-hour of use.

One possible drawback of large batteries is the amount of time it takes to charge them. On a regular 7.4kW home EV charger, it takes around 14 hours to fully charge the Q8 e-tron 50 from zero, whereas the 55 and SQ8 e-tron require approximately 17 hours. A 22 kW charger is available as an add-on for any vehicle, but not all house wallboxes can handle that much power because it needs a three-phase current source. Conversely, every car comes equipped with an 11 kW charger.

The maximum charging speed and battery capacity of the Q8 e-tron, however, are enhanced with each subsequent edition. A 170 kW load is no problem for the Q8 e-tron 55, and a 150 kW load is no problem for the Q8 e-tron 50 base model. It takes about 30 minutes to charge your battery from 10 to 80 percent if you can locate a fast enough ultra-rapid charging outlet.

No electric vehicle, including the Q8 e-tron, is required to pay vehicle excise tax (VED) or the London Congestion Charge until the year 2025. Additionally, in comparison to a cheaper diesel-powered Audi Q5, it will earn 2% less Benefit-in-Kind (BiK) over the next few years.
